SHARING:

Mike P. (Home Grp. 500, Chesterfield) The purpose of the sharing session is to gauge the amount of interest in starting a bid committee to bring ICYPAA to the St. Louis area / Missouri. This is a “nuts and bolts” gathering time for us. Been to 2 ICYPAAs (Houston, Portland). Currently serving as District 4.3 secretary. Past service includes IR for grp 236, treasurer at YP (young people) meeting, home grp positions.

Chelsea H. (Home Grp. 448, Glendale) Let’s lead by example, there are a ton of cool YP in AA in Saint Louis. Attended 45th ICYPAA in Louisville. Currently serving as alt. IR for 448, Past service includes home grp positions.

Andrea B. (Home Grp. 271, Chesterfield) This would be an awesome experience for YP in Saint Louis. Currently GSR for 271, treasurer in another grp.

Ashley S. (Home Grp.423, North County Office) Interested in going to next ICYPAA. Willing to be of service. Can help with anything we need. YP can do a lot of good in STL.

Joe E. (Home Grp. 43, Lindell Club) We’re not going for any guppies, we’ll be fishing for the whale! Outreach is amazing and worthwhile. Served on AZCYPAA committee.

Hal F. (Home Grp. 500, Chesterfield) Served on Michigan bid committee. Currently GSR for grp 500. Chaired some dances for YP meeting.

Brandon M. (Home Grp. Webster) New to AA. Vision of new people coming in and feeling at home in AA, no matter what their age.

Bill P. (Home Grp. 43, Lindell Club) Willing to make a commitment to see a bid through. Served on various dance committees.

Matt N. (Home Grp. SEMO University Group, Cape Girardeau) Not many young people stick around in AA. Few are really serious. YP service structure could help people know they are not alone. Served on Treatment committee in Cape Girardeau. Willing to do whatever it takes to help out.

Ron M. (Home Grp. 500, Chesterfield) Served as an IR, treasurer. If needed, willing to help in any way to be service.

Sean W. (Home Grp. 43, Lindell Club) Limited experience in AA. YP in St. Louis are the most solid of all the cities he has spent time in. Willing to help get a bid going for next conference, help with dances, events, getting more people involved.

Rob V. (Home Grp. 318, Central Services) Came to see what this is all about, what it takes to bid. Advocate of anything cool like this and willing to do whatever.

Josh M. (Home Grp. 448, Glendale) Excited about the possibility. Two years ago first went to YP meeting. Now there is strong sobriety, men and women our age. We are the future. Once the older people are gone it will be left to us to carry the message. Willing to do whatever to be a part. We can do this. Had surgery and will be immobile for one month.

Pete M. (Home Grp. 448, Glendale) Really excited. Everything this exciting requires commitments. SLACYPAA failed because the people involved dissolved and eventually disappeared. How AA got started was two men with a concept and a vision. This will require a big commitment. Willing to help.

Dan G. (Home Grp. Elmwood) Served for a month or so on SLACYPAA. Success/failure does not depend on winning the bid. A lot of dedication / commitment is needed. Humility, willingness to ask for help will be key. We can have a real good time and a lot of fun.

Sean K. (Home Grp.477, Sunset Hills) Served as chair in MO-IL men’s breakfast. Served in Men’s conference in STL. Brought to his attention that it takes a minimum of 16 guys meeting 1 or 2 times per month to do the conference. Temp. Business licenses and insurance. Wants to jump in but need to learn. Would be willing to get something started without doing a bid.

James M. (Home Grp. 477, Sunset Hills) Served as grp. treasurer, and treasurer of a few dances, helped with Men’s conference in STL, Men’s breakfast, went to 45th ICYPAA. Saw the spirit that is ICYPAA. Are there hotel’s big enough in STL? Interested in what’s going on in STL, if there is a city that can do it, it’s us.

Mark W. (Home Grp. Into Action, Crestwood/Affton) No opinion on starting bid committee. Sharing experience, strength and hope with YP across the nation is attractive. Is this a Special Interest Group? Question the idea of separating oneself from the rest of AA. More than willing to help.

Travis W. (Home Grp.477, Sunset Hills) Came to check it out, get a clear idea of what’s happening. Bid committee is initially exciting but amazing efforts are involved. STL has good establishment of YP. A better gauge of the interest of YP in STL will be a whole year of meetings rather than one meeting.

Josh S. (Home Grp. 477, Sunset Hills) GSR for 1 ½ years at 477. Observed conference committees in action. More in favor of reestablishing a SLACYPAA to build support for a larger purpose.

Chris S. (Home Grp. 477, Sunset Hills) Pass.

Discussion continued since everyone had already had a chance to share.

Hal F. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. In a symphony each instrument does not sound as good alone. But when you put them together it is amazing. There are a million things to get done, but the committee can split the jobs up. God brought us together. All we need to do is what’s in front of us.

Brandon M. Read the letter from Glynn W. about being “young at heart”.

Joe E. The bid from FL won because they had a cross section of the state, not only because they had a good bid. We should do one as Missouri, not STL. AZCYPAA had one event per month.

Chelsea H. Bringing SLACYPAA back could breed life into AA. This is just the beginning and will bring opportunities for new people to be of service.

Dan G. All-state concept could bring in Kansas City! Do we need a lawyer on the committee? The bid packets are very professional.

Matt N. YP conference a special interest?? They do not exclude people, Special interest groups usually exclude people. He had a friend who was in ISCYPAA who thought it brought disunity to AA, but that’s only true if there is no demand. ICYPAA can help create unity in AA.

James M. Read a note of support from Bill W. about ICYPAA.

Closing: Travis W. closed with the Responsibility Statement.

Gratefully submitted,

Mike P.
