Summary of Actions of last Meeting read; Minutes approved.
Treasure Report: treasurer not present. Sean K., gave report that there
has been no activity with account. He also informed the Committee that the
Treasure, Dan B., is stepping down from position.
Reports:
Chair, Sean K.: Opening and welcoming comments. Nothing new to report. He
briefly talked about the upcoming event SMICYPAA is collaborating with Group
#569.
Co Chair, Susan M: not present, and no report.
Hotel Chair, Travis W.: Travis W., is working on getting together with Chelsea
P. to discuss plan of attack with Hotels. No contact has been made. He has
sent emails and calls out to hotels. Chelsea P. will also be making contact.
Outreach Chair, Ian S.: The Outreach Committee has been keeping busy, trying
to get new folks involved, and trying to serve as a statewide committee.
I think I have a good lead on a State Convention Committee Liaison, and
hope to appoint one by next Meeting. I haven’t addressed the Family
Groups Subcommittee Chair position, but I plan on filling that position
soon. I’ve been keeping up with our existing subcommittee chairs (men’s
treatment, women’s treatment, and Columbia/Moberly). Using my acting
webmaster abilities, as housekeeping, I set up forwarding email addresses
for each of the subcommittee chairs. Our Women’s Treatment Subcommittee
Chair has reported that she has started gathering contact information for
treatment centers in Missouri that are free or low cost, and is working
on getting a comprehensive list of all treatment centers in the State, including
those that only treat drugs other than alcohol. Our Men’s Treatment
Subcommittee Chair reported that he has made a strong contact with a State
official that can also help us reach treatment centers in our State. The
goal is put together a mailing which will reach Missouri treatment centers
to let them know about our bid committee and invite their clients to our
events. In the St. Louis area, I worked with our previous Outreach Committee
Chairperson, Jason B., in seeing to it that the once-a-month AA newcomers’
meeting at the Arnold Comtrea, an on-going commitment, remains in place
with a SMICYPAA-related, young AA as its chair. The meeting is at 4 p.m.
on the last Wednesday of every month. I’m happy to report that Jeff
G. has stepped up and will be taking over as chair next month. While I was
at the Area Assembly last week, I met with Rondell M. who is currently serving
as Area 39 Delegate. He assured me that he knows of several young people
in his hometown of Springfield, MO and in other parts of his Area that may
be interested SMICYPAA service work. He seemed eager to help and said he’ll
pass out my SMICYPAA contact information. I ran into him last night, and
he says I should be getting some calls soon. Soon I hope to be able to announce
our first Outreach Committee Event, a free event with food, which will probably
be in either Springfield or the Columbia/Moberly area, with the help of
Bill P. Finally, with the upcoming relocation of our Outreach Committee
Co-Chair, Julie W., we hope to grasp roots in the Kansas City area, and
hold an event there next year. I’m looking forward to our first regular
SMICYAA event, and getting the word out. That’s all I have to report.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to
contact me by phone or email. Yours in service, Ian S., Outreach Committee
Chairperson, SMICYPAA BC.
Group Communications Chair, Mike P.: Important activities since our last
meeting include attending and participating at the Area 38 (Eastern MO)
Assembly on Oct 7 & 8. There were at least five SMICYPAA committee members
in attendance. Each of SMICYPAA members were serving AA in some fashion
that required them to be at the assembly. This fact was well noted by our
incoming Delegate Pat B. She was excited to see us there and even took the
time to introduce the guest speaker Rick W. from the GSO staff to us during
lunch! On Sunday there were two individuals who expressed an interest in
SMICYPAA so I provided them with information about our meetings and the
website. For the next Area Assembly on January 20, I will make up and bring
an informational flyer. On the subject of subcommittee appointments, none
have been made yet. If you are interested in serving as the Young People's
Group Subcommittee Chair or the Intergroup Liaison Chair please let me know
right away. Last month we also got some positive feedback from Megan B.
on the ICYPAA Advisory Council, she replied after reading our minutes "It
is exciting to see that your elections went well and we look forward to
hearing about your further elections and activities." Thank you for
the opportunity to serve.
Events Chair, Jason B.: Upcoming event is November 11, 2006. Group #569,
Young People’s meeting will be hosting the meeting. The event will
be at St Martin’s Church on Clayton Road. Tickets will be $5. Jason
discussed the collaboration with Group #569. With discussion the Committee
decided that Group #569 will keep the money collected in the basket during
the meeting.
Merchandising Chair, Adam W.: Adam has been networking with other people
to gather ideas about art work for the T-Shirts. He has also been looking
into printing companies to get a fair price.
Old Business:
501C3 issue will be tabled to a later date.
There are still open positions on the committee. Treasure is now an open
position again.
New Business:
There was no new business.
General Sharing:
Chelsea P. discussed participating in an event with the Georgia Bid Committee.
The event would be somewhere in the middle for each states. It was agreed
that Chelsea P. should further explore this opportunity.
Next meeting is November 4, 2006.
Meeting closed at 4:40 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Maggie T.
